World premiere of the Panamera GTS, US debut of the new 911 Carrera.
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is putting two sporty premieres centre stage of the Los Angeles Auto Show 2011. Lapping up the limelight in the Convention Center will be the Panamera GTS, being unveiled for the very first time anywhere in the world and the Coupé versions of the new generation 911 Carrera, making their debut in front of the American public.
No less attractive are Porsche’s other stars of the show as well: visitors will be treated to a cross-section of the product portfolio with the hybrid variants of the Panamera and Cayenne putting on a persuasive performance with their combination of outstanding efficiency and very low emissions and the two seater, mid-engine Boxster and Cayman sports cars thrilling with their uncompromising sportiness.
With its eight-cylinder engine uprated to 430 hp (316 kW) and exhibiting all the traits of a free-revving sports engine, the new Panamera GTS is a special offering for customers also tempted to take to the racing circuit at the wheel of a Gran Turismo fit for everyday use. To that end, Porsche’s engineers have cultivated the Panamera’s sports car genes with particular care, putting together a chassis package with air suspension and adaptive damping (PASM), with lowered body and more powerful braking system. Visual and acoustic modifications provide an additional boost to the sporty driving experience.
The new 911 Carrera is being launched onto the US market as a completely redeveloped generation. True to the sports car icon tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language with its tendons and muscles exudes power and elegance. The 100 millimetre longer wheelbase and reduced height combined with the up to 20-inch wheels underpin the athletic appearance. The all-new lightweight design, innovative aluminium-steel body makes the new generation lighter, even sportier and more comfortable. The world’s first seven-speed manual transmission is featured as standard with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) also with seven speeds available as an alternative. New active control systems elevate driving dynamics to an unprecedented level. Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 Carrera raises the performance and efficiency bar yet again. All Coupés get by with significantly less than ten litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. Fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 per cent lower compared with its predecessor. The new generation starts with the 911 Carrera, powered by a 350 hp (257 kW), 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine and the 911 Carrera S with 400 hp (294 kW) flat engine and 3.8 litre displacement.
The combination of sporty performance and high efficiency is a forte of the Porsche vehicles. The Panamera S Hybrid and Cayenne S Hybrid lend further impressive credence to this hallmark brand attribute. In the luxury class, the Gran Turismo is the fastest yet at the same time most economical full hybrid with the lowest CO2 emissions; the Cayenne S Hybrid with the same engine is bringing Porsche technology to bear on the SUV market. Both offer a total power output of 380 hp (279 kW) and can not just cover short distances on purely electric power but at higher speeds can coast as well, making for especially low emissions.
