1.      Always Go with a Reputable Doctor

Whenever you consider any surgery, especially a cosmetic procedure, you want to be absolutely certain that you’ll be in good hands. So before you settle on the doctor that will perform the procedure, do your research. Find doctors in your area who have experience with vaginal cosmetic procedures, and read reviews on those doctors to see what patients think of them and their experience with them. 2.      Labiaplasty Is an Invasive Procedure

Also referred to as a vulvaplasty, a labiaplasty is an invasive procedure. This reduces the protrusion and the size of the labia minora, giving you more confidence and comfort.

3.      The Recovery Period Can Be Long

Whenever you opt to have any type of surgery, you should be aware of what you can expect during the recovery period. When it comes to labiaplasty, the recovery period can be pretty intense. Doctors often recommend taking sitz baths and using a hair dryer to completely dry your vaginal area to eliminate moisture and reduce the odds of infection. You also need to wear tight garments to prevent chafing, wear loose clothing at night, and take antibiotics. You should set aside enough recuperation time by taking time off from work and asking your family or friends for help until you completely recover.

4.      Your Insurance May Not Cover It

If you need a labiaplasty because of a congenital condition, your health insurance policy will probably cover the cost of the procedure. However, if you’re going into it for cosmetic reasons only, you shouldn’t expect that your insurance will cover the cost, and you may have to pay for the procedure out of pocket. 

5.      It’s a Fairly Quick Procedure

The good thing about these types of procedures is the fact that they can often be done in a short period of time. You might be able to go to your doctor, go under anesthesia, recover at the facility for a few hours, and then go home on the same day. Depending upon how detailed the procedure needs to be and how much needs to be done, your surgery might take anywhere from just 15 minutes to about an hour.
