Florida Keys: The Overseas Highway

The Florida Keys are connected to the mainland by the Overseas Highway. Imagine driving over the blue of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Incredible ocean sunsets, swimming, snorkeling, and beaches make this the ultimate summer scenic drive.

 

Montana and Wyoming: Beartooth Highway

The Beartooth Highway is one of the most famous scenic drives in the United States, winding through the Absaroke and Beartooth Mountains. It provides access to Yellowstone National Park and is decorated with wildflowers, still lakes, and gorgeous waterfalls. Temperatures in this area tend to stay cool, so it’s a great drive for people sensitive to heat.

The park holds everything from dense forests to rocky shores, and the highest point on the US Atlantic seaboard: Cadillac Mountain. It is a National Scenic Byway, with sailing and fishing spots available, and passes through towns like Bar Harbor, where you can eat fresh seafood caught and served directly to you.

 

Montana: Going-to-the-Sun Road

Summer is magical in Glacier National Park. Alpine lakes and meadows contrast with snow-covered peaks. Driving on the Going-to-the-Sun Road depends on snowfall and temperature. The route is usually open by July. You can pass by one of many villages, such as West Glacier Village, Apgar Village, and others. Lake McDonald boasts crystal-clear waters, so it’s a must-see, as well.
