A full glam makeup look can be fun but sometimes, it is nice to go simple and elegant. This makeup look emphasizes your natural features and highlights the best part, without covering up too much of your face. There are many ways to do achieve this look, but here is a simple guide that will work every time.

Prep the skin

Before you start applying your makeup, you want to prep your skin with a good skincare routine. This will ensure that the makeup will stay on the skin for a longer time, without smudging too much. The best tip is to do your skincare about 30 minutes before applying your makeup, allowing the skincare products to absorb into your skin. You should also apply some primer to your skin to reduce the appearance of any fine lines and pores.

Use a thin layer of foundation and concealer

An elegant makeup look is often polished and there is more emphasis on looking natural, rather than flawless. This means using a minimal amount of foundation and concealer for your base makeup. You want to even out the skin tone without layering on too much product. A good tip is to choose from a brand that offers a wide range of foundation shades, like Chanel or Fenty Beauty, and get the one that is closest to your natural skin tone.

If you want to, you could even skip foundation and just use a bit of concealer for your under-eye area, blemishes, or any redness. Avoid using powder to set your makeup or you might end up with dullness and dryness. If you have oily skin, you can use a bit of mineral powder or blotting paper to blot out the excess oil.

Define your brows

You should always keep your brows polished and tidy for every makeup look, whether it is glam or simple. However, it is even more important if you are going for an elegant look, so try to keep your brows as neat as you can. If you have thicker brows, use a brow gel to keep the hair tidy and in place. If you have thinner brows, you should fill it in a bit with the brow product of your choice. Eyebrow pencils are the most common, but eyebrow mascara can be used for a more natural look. Your brows should look natural, so avoid overfilling them and draw in your brows with light strokes.

Choose a focus for your look

Most makeup looks, like the ones you see on the red carpet, focus on both the eyes and the lips. However, having two focal points on your face can be overbearing, especially for an elegant makeup look. Instead, you should just pick on to focus on one and use minimal makeup for the other.

If you choose to highlight your eyes, you will place more emphasis on eye makeup and then use a nude shade for the lips. One look that you can try is the smoky eye look. To do this, apply a neutral eyeshadow shade all over your eyelid. Next, take a slightly darker shade, apply it to the centre and blend it towards the outer corner of your eyelids. Then, take a bit of highlight and apply it to the inner corners. Finish it off with some liner and mascara.

Choose a nude pink lipstick shade and apply it to your lips as usual. Lips are highlighted by inverting the process, leaving the eyes simple and opting for a bold lip colour. You can still do your eye makeup if you want, but make sure it looks natural and isn't too dark or bright. A nude peach tone would look great on lighter skin, while a light brown tone would look great on darker skin. Because the focus is on the lips, go for something bright and bold. The red lip is a classic, but you can also try a fuchsia or rose pink lipstick for a more sophisticated look.

Use a natural blush

The purpose of a blush is to add life to the face, especially if you have a thick layer of foundation on your skin. However, since this look does not require much base makeup, you might wonder if blush is still needed. You can choose to skip this step but adding a bit of blush to your cheeks could give you a youthful glow.

Complete the look

Now that you are done with your makeup, you can apply some setting spray, and you are ready to go. Complete your elegant look with a spritzing of perfume, preferably something that suits the season. This makeup look is great for any occasion, like a dinner at a restaurant or for a date with a loved one. You can also wear this look with any outfit, whether it’s a simple t-shirt and jeans combo with a cute shoulder bag, or a full-length dress with a statement clutch.
