Elegant and contemporary, Aethalia inaugurates a fabulous collection for Locman, resulting from a lengthy design stage destined to last.

Aethalia is the ancient name of the island of Elba, where Locman has its headquarters. Coined by the ancient Greeks, it means spark and refers to the flashes of light that the Argonauts noticed as they observed the island from the sea. These were made by the furnaces of the Etruscans, as they laboriously forged the metals that have always abounded on Elba. Technical prowess and craftsmanship have characterized the people of Elba since ancient times.

Aethalia is also the name that Elbans gave to the legendary ferry that connected the island to the mainland in the 1950s, the first ferry with direct access for cars, doing away with the need for the nets that had until then been used to harness and hoist cars onto the deck.

This was when tourists started arriving on the island. The first modern ferry in Europe symbolized the beginning of an adventure, an opening up to the mainland, connecting love and excitement. Aetha- lia marked time for the people on Elba, covering the

main routes at noon and eight o’clock in the evening, the last ride. Called by the unmistakable blast of its siren, the people of Elba would gather at the port to see who was arriving and leaving. A symbol of modernity, technology, and readiness to welcome the world by an Italy that was looking towards the future.

The elegance, modernity, and technological values inspire the new Locman collection.

THE MOVEMENT

The mechanical hand-wound OISA Calibre 29-50 Cinque Ponti movement has a handmade Cotes de Genève bridge finish enclosing the gear train and a handcrafted Perlage finish on the plate.

The OISA 29-50 movement has 19 jewels distributed over the five bridges on the main plate. This movement uses a ‘Masselottes’ -type time regulator, i.e., one which uses counterweights located on the handwheel of the balance instead of the classic regulating racquet located on the bridge of the balance wheel. The power reserve is a guaranteed 60 hours on a full wind, with a daily chronometric tolerance of + / -1O seconds.

CASE AND DIAL

The case of Aethalia watches consists of three pieces: the bezel, the carrure, and the screw-down bottom, all made entirely of grade-3 biocompatible titanium or 18K gold. With a diameter of 40mm, the case has a highly dynamic, ergonomic shape. The extended lugs highlight the design's uniqueness and help define the watch’s optimal weight and fit. With its quadruple internal o-ring seal, the crown guarantees water resistance to 1O atmospheres (100 metres), through guilloché workmanship. The antiglare sapphire glass ensures maximum transparency and readability, together with an excellent level of scratch resistance. At the 6 o’clock position, the inscription ‘Made in Italy’ stands out, together with the Italian flag that underscores the identity of OISA’s project.
