According to the Chinese zodiac, 2021 is the Year of the Metal Ox.
For this special occasion, ArtyA unveils an unique watch model in the "SON OF ART, CUT" collection that features a stylized buffalo head created by the artist D. Arpa-Cirpka, using the traditional art of paper cutting.
In China the paper cutting art has existed since the sixth century and you need a great dexterity in the handling of scissors to tackle this tiny and detailed métiers d'art work. Paper cutting is also very popular in Switzerland, where it is called "Scherrenschnitt." ArtyA created some special models using this traditional technique, depicting the famous "désalpe," the descent of oxen and cows from the high alpine pastures.
For this special watch for the Year of the Metal Ox, ArtyA approached the merging of these ancient traditions from China and Switzerland with great respect – and the perfect place to display this unique combination of arts is in a Swiss watch. The fine cutting, signed by the artist, is affixed to the dial, where the black flame-shaped hands circle elegantly around the stylized red, purple and black buffalo head on a white background.
The classical ArtyA 44 mm steel bezel with iconic lateral steel inserts has been used for this unique version, powered by a Swiss high-end automatic movement. A magnificent green saltwater crocodile strap perfectly fits this special timepiece.
Celebrate the Year of the Metal Ox with ArtyA, celebrating traditional métiers d'art from both Switzerland and China, and Swiss watchmaking heritage.
