The Barking Irons Spirits brand pays homage to the rich heritage of New York through the map of Five Points on the interior of their bottle to the traditional NY firefighter's shield shape of the front label. And now, the brand is using its latest product, a new 80-proof Applejack, to give back to New Yorkers with 50% of all sales through July 4th going to the EMS FDNY Help Fund.
"As so many New Yorkers risk their lives every day to keep us safe, we wanted to find a way to give back," said Elliott Phear, co-founder of the brand, "and the EMS FDNY Help Fund is an organization that's making a direct difference by looking after the families of New York's bravest."
Like Applejack, fire escapes have been an iconic part of New York City life for many years. From the 1800s, when people living in crowded tenement buildings escaped the heat of summer nights by sleeping on their fire escapes, to modern New Yorkers finding fleeting moments of outdoor time and neighborly connection while toasting our frontline workers each night.
Today, the brand is encouraging New Yorkers to "Fire Escape This Summer," staying safely socially distanced this Memorial Day weekend (and as long as it takes), by finding their moment of relaxation on their fire escape. Or whatever their version of a safe escape looks like - balcony, stoop, rooftop, or virtual.
Order a bottle from your local shop or Reserve Bar and raise a glass of New York history while supporting New Yorkers.

The brand is also giving back to the New York hospitality community through its Homebrewed series. Bartenders affected by COVID-19 bar and restaurant closures are paid to work 'shifts,' sharing straightforward recipes on the brand's Instagram that can easily be recreated at home. Each recipe video is promoted along with that bartender's Venmo username to receive tips. Watch them all by following @BISpirits.
