The House of Breguet echoes its history through its feminine collections. And if there is one name that simply must be evoked in this context, it is undoubtedly that of Marie-Antoinette, with whom the watchmaker who settled in Paris in the 18th century gained special favour thanks to his magnificent and ingenious creations. The queen’s love of his timepieces earned Breguet an enviable reputation. The sovereign promoted his name at the French court, of which the most eminent figures soon became clients. In tribute to this influential and singular admirer, Breguet adorns its most exceptional models with refined ornamentation drawing inspiration from the majesty of the floral universe, from paintings of that era, and from the splendidly intricate workmanship of court gowns.
To mark the launch in Tokyo (Japan) of the exhibition titled “Marie-Antoinette, a Queen in Paris” and supported by the House of Breguet, the latter revisits the Désir de la Reine watch, now presented in a special version. This exquisite model features a dial graced with pink sapphires of various sizes whose colours are arranged in subtly graded shades. The artisans of the Manufacture have borrowed from Marie-Antoinette one of the most iconic decorative elements of her attire: the bow. Crafted in 18-carat white gold and entirely set with diamonds, this dainty motif hugs the curve of the watch at 6 o’clock. It echoes the brilliant-cut diamonds paving the bezel and the flange, and is picked up on the natural mother-of-pearl dial.
Above and beyond her love of fashion, the queen of France was also draw to mechanical watchmaking, as she regularly proved with the models she acquired from Breguet throughout her reign. In memory of this special horological appreciation, the brand has chosen to equip this timepiece with a mechanical self-winding movement.
Fitted with a pink satin strap, this distinctive Désir de la Reine creation salutes an emblematic figure who will forever influence the history of the House of Breguet.
