Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation Announces 2015 Breakthrough Ball Gala Honoree Erin Brockovich

The Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation (CCBF) is delighted to announce that Erin Brockovich, environmental activist and consumer advocate, will be accepting the 2015 “Breakthrough Spirit” award at the annual Breakthrough Ball benefit gala on Wednesday, November 11th at the Metropolitan Club in New York City. Proceeds from this benefit help to provide much needed medication, chemotherapy, and other life-saving treatments to children at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Erin Brockovich is renowned for her relentless advocacy of environmental health causes and remains actively involved in using the law to protect human rights. Brockovich launched her career as an environmental activist in 1991, when she started working for a law firm as a file clerk, and became the driving force behind the largest medical settlement lawsuit in history. Through her continuous and passionate activism, Erin continues working to improve the lives of others.

CCBF's Chairman Les Lieberman said "The Children's Cancer and Blood Foundation (CCBF) has spent more than half a century finding cures and saving children. Thanks to funds raised at the Breakthrough Ball gala, CCBF researchers have helped push the overall survival rate by finding new cures and better treatments for kids suffering from these terrible diseases.”

A social highlight of the season, the gala gathers nearly 400 guests each year and has featured an impressive collection of honorees. Past “Breakthrough Spirit” recipients include CBS Evening News Anchor/Managing Editor and 60 Minutes Correspondent, Katie Couric, media entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner, six-time NBA All-Star, Amar’e Stoudemire, Grammy Award-winning singer Toni Braxton, Legendary singer/songwriter Daryl Hall, and musician and producer Swizz Beatz.

Long-time CCBF supporter, actor, commentator, and philanthropist, Charles Grodin will return as emcee. The exciting live auction will give guests the chance to bid on a complete Super Bowl 50 package, along with several other highly anticipated luxury and travel packages. Topping off this magical night will be a spectacular performance by The Soul Rebels. Based out of New Orleans, The Soul Rebels effortlessly blend funk and soul with elements of hip-hop and pop music. Having recently collaborated live with artists spanning from Macklemore to Kool & The Gang, The Soul Rebels’ eclectic performances harness the power of horns and drums in the party like atmosphere that will be sure to keep everyone dancing into the night.
