The Christiaan van der Klaauw Planetarium ‘Julie’ is a unique creation from the Collection of the Atelier, customized at the highest level of watchmaking.
Developed in close collaboration between the collector and CEO & Master Watchmaker Pim Koeslag, this one-of-a-kind timepiece was designed as a heartfelt tribute to the collector’s young daughter, a creation unlike any other in the history of CVDK.
A NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FUSION OF CUSTOMIZATION,
MATERIAL AND DESIGN
The Christiaan van der Klaauw Planetarium ‘Julie’ represents an extraordinary reinterpretation of the world’s smallest mechanical planetarium, displaying six planets — Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn — orbiting the Sun in real time.
To achieve this fully skeletonized design, the entire Planetarium module was re-engineered. The bridges and main plate were reshaped to follow the distinctive outline of the CVDK logo, the Sun with twelve claws.
Each bridge was cut open and hand-finished with more than seventy inward angles, showcasing the highest level of craftsmanship. The transparent sapphire dial, with hand-applied Hindu-Arabic numerals, reveals the celestial architecture beneath.
A UNIVERSE CAPTURED IN DETAIL
The Planetarium ‘Julie’ features a fully customized CKM-01 movement housed in titanium, with hand-skeletonized bridges and a solid meteorite bezel over 4.6 billion years old.
Master engraver Kees Engelbarts has delicately engraved the profile of Julie twice on the rotating barrel, ensuring her image remains visible at all times.
Every element of this piece unique reflects the highest level of artistry and precision within the Collection of the Atelier.
