Auction facility

Linde Werdelin is ushering in a new era with the LW Auction, seeking to transform the conventional pricing model for their exclusive one-of-a-kind creations. In place of fixed price tags, the company will empower customers and the market to collectively determine the value through an interactive auction experience. This approach not only guarantees equity but also lets prices mirror the shared preferences of Linde Werdelin's discerning clientele.

The LW Auction takes its cue from the successful launch of Linde Werdelin's certified pre-owned platform back in May 2016. This expansion underscores the brand's unwavering commitment to serving clients directly and staying attuned to their ever-evolving requirements.

The LW Auction is designed primarily for Linde Werdelin's potential and existing clients who are already familiar with the brand and its timepieces. Whether seeking a one-of-a-kind contemporary piece or a rare vintage treasure, this platform will serve as the go-to destination for acquiring these coveted items at market prices.

“We're thrilled to introduce our auction facility on our website” says Jorn Werdelin. “Just like when we launched certified preowned items in May 2016, our aim is to continue our customer-centric journey. With one-of-a-kind or rare pieces, our goal is to foster client interaction and transparency. We believe it's an exciting and fun idea that will engage and create a market within our community.”

The Oktopus Monster piece unique: November 28th to December 8th

The Oktopus Monster - a truly unique timepiece engraved by the renowned English artist and master engraver, Johnny Dowell will be the first piece to be auctioned between November 28th and December 8th. Near 200 hours of engraving transformed the classic Oktopus Moon into this Oktopus Monster.

Johnny's association with Linde Werdelin dates back to 2014 when he first came across Linde Werdelin in a magazine while staying at a hotel in Portugal. Trained with renowned British gunmakers James Purdey & Sons for 15 years as a gun engraver, Johnny has since built a reputation for very individual and complex engravings across an array of products.

The Oktopus Monster is the fourth collaboration between Johnny Dowell and Linde Werdelin. These engraved pieces have become an integral part of Linde Werdelin's identity and journey, representing exceptional artisanship and craftsmanship with a touch of lightheartedness and humor.

Crafting such a piece involves a lengthy process that takes months. It begins with planning the watch's design, followed by the delicate engraving and the addition of 24kt gold. Finally, it's finished with the unique blackened effect. The intricate details are meticulously carved using precision tools under a microscope or magnifying glass, demanding intense concentration and patience.

For the Oktopus Monster - a piece unique, Johnny had complete creative freedom to do what he thought would be the natural next engraving after the Reef, Crazy Universe and Volcano. When the watch was completed, Jorn Werdelin found inspiration reminiscent of Jules Verne's most famous novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

In short, the story is about Captain Nemo and his crew’s adventure as they explore the world’s oceans – encountering places like Atlantis and a giant octopus. At the beginning of the tale, their futuristic submarine (the novel was published in 1869 where submarines were quite primitive) is mistaken for a sea monster until we realize that it’s Captain Nemo’s creation, meant for exploring the world under the sea and escaping from civilization.

The engraving, though not directly inspired by the novel, shares the romantic notion of an age of enormous progress and exploration which these days seems to be an age of innocence.

"I'll be straightforward about it says Johnny Dowell", "the Monster project was an absolute thrill because I had carte blanche. Jorn encouraged me to express my personal style without any restrictions. It was immensely gratifying to translate my original templates onto the watch, truly testing my creativity and engraving skills."

"I invested more than 200 hours in the engraving process," he revealed. "From planning the layout on the watch to the actual engraving, it was a comprehensive endeavor. Working with Grade 2 titanium, although not my first time as I've previously engraved Linde Werdelin pieces, still presented its challenges. This material remains one of the toughest I've encountered. On a positive note, the watch's flat sides, as opposed to curves, made it a joy to work with. I found that The Oktopus Monster’s facets provided an ideal canvas for my craftsmanship.
