When most people think about making changes to their homes, they worry about having to spend large sums of money. But even those who are not in a healthy financial position can make changes to their homes without having to spend a fortune.

During these unprecedented times, a lot of us have spent more time than ever before at home to help reduce the number of people contracting and spreading the Coronavirus. Spending morning, noon, and night at home can cause a lot of frustration, and the ongoing pandemic has encouraged people to improve their homes. However, with the economy in such a fragile state, a lot of people have lost their jobs, so finding money to hire contractors to make changes to their homes is not an option.

Luckily, you can improve your home yourself, without borrowing a single penny!

Put some houseplants in your home

Houseplants can help brighten up your home, but did you know having plants inside your home can benefit both your mental and physical health too?

During certain stages of the pandemic, people have been forced to work from home. If this is the case in your household, you have probably found yourself getting stressed from time to time. According to scientists, houseplants can help lower feelings of stress, and make you feel comfortable.

Recently, a study was carried out in India and America, where over four hundred employees working for tech giants, Amazon, were interviewed. The study showed that the majority of workers felt better job satisfaction when they worked in a room with genuine plants in comparison to those who worked in rooms without any plants or artificial plants.

If you have plants growing in your backyard, check online to see if they will grow indoors. If you find plants that grow indoors on your property, you won’t have to spend your hard-earned money on plants for sale in your local garden store.

Hire Professional Cleaners

If you notice that your old sofa is stained, and you are finding it difficult to remove the stubborn stain, instead of spending a large chunk of money on a new sofa, why not hire a professional cleaner that provides an upholstery cleaning service. A reputable cleaning company will have the tools on hand and the experience to get rid of tough stains. Before buying a brand new sofa, ask a cleaner in your local area for help.

Some cleaners provide a carpet cleaning service too. These cleaners often use industrial vacuum cleaners so they can remove all the dirt and dust that gets trapped in your carpet’s fibers. Replacing your old carpets with new carpets will cost you a pretty penny, which is why you should consider hiring a professional cleaner to help you extend the lifespan of your old carpets.

Clean the walls in your home

If your wals are dirty, instead of painting them, try washing them first. A lot of people paint their walls with latex paint, and if this is the case in your home, just grab a bucket of warm water and add some all-purpose cleaning liquid. Basic dish soap will do the trick! Take a sponge and soak it in the liquid, then gently scrub the walls with the sponge. If you used distilled white vinegar in your mixture, you might notice a nasty odor, but don’t worry, the smell will go away after a short period of time.

Within an hour or two, your walls will look fresh and clean!

Make floating shelves from scratch

Most homeowners can never have enough storage areas. With plenty of storage, you will be able to store items in different areas throughout the house, without having to worry about clutter.

Making shelves from scratch is easy, and it can be a lot of fun. Even if you don’t have any experience working with wood, there are several video tutorials on how to make floating shelves online. Not only are shelves great for storing items, but floating shelves look amazing too. You can use them to display family photographs, trophies, etc.

Give your wardrobe a makeover

If you don’t like throwing away old clothing items, your wardrobe might be full to the brim with clothes you no longer wear. By decluttering your wardrobe, you will create a lot of empty space, so get rid of any item you haven’t worn over the past year.

If you find yourself getting bored looking at the same dull wardrobe you have been staring at for years, why not paint it with a fresh coat of paint. A lick of paint might brighten up your old wardrobe, and it might make you feel energized.

Also, you can invest in some inexpensive LED lights. These lights will automatically turn on when you open the door of the wardrobe and turn off when you close it. Looking for clothes to wear without enough light can be tricky, so a few LED lights will provide you with additional light.
