Panasonic is introducing the LUMIX ZS80 as a new model in the popular "Travel Zoom" ZS Series. The LUMIX ZS80 boasts a 30x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-720mm) and LVF (Live View Finder) packed in a pocket-sized body while enabling 4K Video /4K PHOTO shooting. The tiltable rear monitor lets users enjoy a variety of selfie shots including 4K selfies and panorama selfies.
The LUMIX ZS80 features a 24mm ultra-wide angle and 30x telephoto LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm camera equivalent: 24-720mm) in a compact body. This versatile zoom range lets you capture virtually any subject, in any situation - from dynamic landscapes to distant subjects, which is especially helpful when traveling. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) effectively compensates for hand shake to minimize blur even in telephoto shooting. The LUMIX ZS80 includes the Zoom Compose Assist function, which helps to regain the subject quickly by zooming out when the sight of the subject is lost in telephoto shooting.
The LUMIX ZS80 incorporates a 1/2.3-inch MOS Sensor with 20.3-megapixel high resolution. For even faster response and higher mobility, the LUMIX ZS80 integrates DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology*1 which shortens the time to set the focus resulting in an ultra-high speed AF of approximately 0.1 sec*2. The LUMIX ZS80 boasts high speed burst shooting at 10 fps (AFS) / 5 fps (AFC) to capture fast moving subjects in-focus and even allows more than 26 consecutive shots in RAW.
The LUMIX ZS80 records high-resolution 4K video in 3840x2160 at 30p or 24p in MP4*3 in addition to the Full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos in AVCHD Progressive or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with practical full-time AF. High Speed Video enables subjects to be recorded with fast motion in Full-HD at 120 fps, while Time Lapse /Stop Motion Animation are also available.
Taking advantage of 4K technology, users can enjoy 4K PHOTO with the LUMIX ZS80. With 4K PHOTO, users can capture fleeting photo opportunities at 30 fps in 8-megapixel equivalent resolution by extracting a frame of the most photogenic timing out of the 4K burst file to save as a photo. Choosing the best shot out of hundreds of frames recorded with 4K PHOTO is now easier with the newly added Auto Marking function. It lets the user jump to the nearest frame where the differences are obvious between consecutive frames to minimize the time it takes to choose the best shot. Sequence Composition makes it possible to make a stromotion image by synthesizing multiple images shot at a fixed frame with 4K PHOTO. A unique image reflecting the subject's motion can be produced easily in the camera without needing a special retouching process. Post Focus and Focus Stacking functions are also available.
4K technology even makes selfie shooting more enjoyable. It captures the best moment in which everyone is smiling in a group selfie or in situations where the background is moving, such as a train passing by.
The LUMIX ZS80 integrates a new 0.21-inch 2,330K-dot equivalent LVF (Live View Finder) and a high magnification ratio of approximately 0.53x (35mm camera equivalent). The image output between the LVF and the rear monitor is switched automatically with the eye sensor on the LVF.
The LUMIX ZS80 integrates a variety of artistic functions that add fun to digital photography. Selfies can also be shot in panorama pictures, which is ideal for group selfies and selfies in front of a dynamically scenic background. The popular Creative Control mode features a total of 22 filter options – Expressive / Retro / Old Days / High Key / Low Key / Sepia / Monochrome / Dynamic Monochrome / Rough Monochrome*4 / Silky Monochrome*4 / Impressive Art / High Dynamic / Cross Process / Toy Effect / Toy Pop / Bleach Bypass / Miniature Effect*5 / Soft Focus*4 / Fantasy / Star Filter*4 / One Point Color / and Sunshine*4 mode. An effect parameter for each mode is also adjustable. With the Creative Panorama function, it is possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consecutive shots taken by overlaying the previous picture and reflecting 18 filter effects.
The 3.0-inch 1040K-dot static type touch control monitor boasts a 180-degree tiltable structure. When the monitor is flipped up, the camera automatically activates Self Shot mode. The user can shoot attractive selfie portraits using a Soft Skin or Slimming effect on the face. After shooting, the user can even apply virtual make-up to the face in playback mode with the Beauty Retouch function. In Aesthetic Retouch, various effects can be applied to the face, including enhancing the skin texture, lifting the face, whitening the teeth, and so on. In Make-up Retouch, users can choose the color of the foundation, lips, cheeks, and eye-shadow.
The LUMIX ZS80 integrates Bluetooth and Wi-Fi® connectivity to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing with easy operation. Once the camera is connected to a smartphone or tablet installed with Panasonic's dedicated application software Panasonic Image App for iOS / Android, users can shoot, browse and share images remotely. Users can also choose the picture quality of the photos to transfer using Image App. Compatibility with Bluetooth 4.2 (called BLE: Bluetooth Low Energy) enables constant connection with a smartphone/tablet with minimum power consumption. This enables the camera to activate by simply using a smartphone/tablet or adds a GPS geotag on the photos automatically.
The LUMIX ZS80 boasts a long battery life of approximately 380 pictures*6 per charge. Thanks to the new eco 30 fps mode, it can shoot up to approximately 340 pictures even when using the LVF. The camera's battery can be recharged either via AC or via USB according to the users' convenience. The menu is also refined to enhance ease of use.
The ZS80 will be available at valued channel partners in April for $449.99.
