This will be a fairly brief note as we were fortunate to have both low temperatures, fresh snow, and bright blue skies in the Alps just after Christmas, so I only just now found time to write instead of skiing and enjoying the cool mountain air. Just a few days of skiing really lifts the Christmas and end of year spirit.
The announcement of the Oktopus generation 3 and with that the Oktopus NATO CPU stand out as the most important development in the year. We have worked on the generation 3 for some time and while retaining the essential DNA of the Oktopus case, the design and construction has been comprehensively changed. It is no exaggeration that every dimension and angle on the case has been modified.
We were of course proud to announce that Linde Werdelin is the chosen partner of the NATO Close Protection Unit (“CPU”) for a series of watches specially designed and produced for the members of their unit. The CPU is the executive security team that protects NATO's Secretary General against potential enemy threats.
We launched the Oktopus Moon Gold Black Ink late summer; our first Oktopus entirely made in sandblasted 18 karat rose gold. The sandblasting gives the gold a soft and warm hue, and strangely understated presence.
During the year we made three trips to visit our US clients – one to the west coast, one to the south, and one to the east coast. All hugely enjoyable and fun and as always, a wonderful opportunity to meet with old and new friends and clients.
In late August we were in Geneva during the Geneva Watch Days. It was the first time in eight years that we participated in a watch gathering in Switzerland. I was surprised by how many industry colleagues and old friends came around and said how much they had missed us. We wanted it to be relaxed environment with good conversations and no expectations; and it was indeed that. We look forward be part of it again early September this coming year.
As follow up on our inaugural LW Auction December 2023, we arranged three auctions in 2024 which went surprisingly well and with three new and happy owners of unique and vintage LW pieces.
I wish you a happy New Year – and with the positive note on snow already being in the Alps I for one am planning my next trip there.
