Just in time for National Honey Month, iconic Southern California escape Ojai Valley Inn & Spa announces the arrival of an on property apiary and launch of an immersive beekeeping experience for guests.
In partnership with Ojai Valley Bee Club, the resort's beekeeping excursion will be available daily, beginning September 1, 2017. With each excursion, guests will receive an immersive, hands-on beekeeping experience. The outings will include an educational journey, tour of the hives, and raw local honey tasting on the patio of the Inn's new apiary set amidst a stunning lavender and wildflower-studded meadow.
"We're thrilled to introduce this distinctive new program and offer an immersive beekeeping experience to our guests," said Heather Dillon, Director of Public Relations at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. "All of the Inn's menus are inspired by local growers and farmers and we take pride in offering unique guest experiences that showcase first-hand, all that goes into the making of California's outstanding cuisine."
Guests will meet the beekeeper at the Inn's new Discover Ojai Center for a brief introduction on bees, followed by a scenic ride to the Mistletoe Meadows where they will don protective suits for a guided tour of the apiary. The immersive excursion, which will include a lesson on the importance of bees on the ecosystem, will conclude with a tasting of raw honeys from local artisans, which have subtle notes of local lavender, sage, and wildflowers, among other native plants also found on Ojai Valley Inn & Spa's 220 acres. A selection of local honey infused menu items can also be enjoyed at the Oak restaurant.
