OKTOPUS MOON 3DTP BLACK INK -A series of 20 pieces to mark 20 years

The striking all-black Oktopus Moon 3DTP Black Ink launches today in a series of 20 pieces to mark the 20th anniversary of Linde Werdelin. The intense all-black, extremely non-reflective dial showcases the next generation of Oktopus, an evolution of both the Oktopus case and the moonphase complication.

In a Linde Werdelin first, the entire case of the Octopus Moon 3DTP Black Ink is produced in pioneering 3-Dimensional Thin Ply Carbon (3DTP™). Previously the bezel was made from ceramic. 
 
With a case weight of just 60 grams, the Oktopus Moon 3DTP™ Black Ink is now the lightest ever timepiece Linde Werdelin has produced (two grams less than the SpidoLite 3DTP™) making it an ideal sports and diver’s watch (waterproof until 300 meters).
 
Establishing a new standard for the Oktopus collection going forward alongside the Oktopus Moon 3DTP with blue and white dial details launched in June 2022, the bezel has been refined and is more integrated into the case, sitting at a steeper angle towards the outer case.
 
The Oktopus case is sculpted into its signature geometric structure using a proprietary 3DTP™ carbon composite. Different from traditional carbon fibre composites or forged carbon, the 3DTP™ involves a technique of layering thin sheets of carbon to ensure maximum lightness and strength. Originally the world’s first proprietary technology carbon conceived for Swiss watchmaking, it is engineered to achieve a high precision calculated case structure.

Movement

The moonphase complication has taken a graphic turn, becoming simpler and stronger to align with the architectural and masculine aesthetic of a Linde Werdelin timepiece.  The lume is present in each of the moon depictions as well as on the hands, indices and dial. In a further change, there is no moon appearing in the dial when the new moon is not yet present in the sky.
 
The dial components are painted in a textured extremely non-reflective black paint with black lume displaying various blues when lumed.
 
The moonphase complication was originally conceived and developed in 2009 together with renowned Danish master watchmaker Svend Andersen of Andersen Geneve. The developing moon depicted in the dial apertures allows divers to plan their night dives according to the moon phase, benefiting from light and often more stable weather conditions around the full moon.

“The holistic approach to watchmaking is very much in evidence in this piece - the light and extremely strong case, the graphic moon depictions, the lume which we have worked extensively with, the invention of a new paint for the dial - all of it forms a complete and experimental timepiece” commented Jorn Werdelin, Co-founder.
 
A special anniversary series of only 20 numbered pieces, each priced at £16,000 ex. VAT.

The Linde Werdelin interchangeable strap system comes as a further benefit to our customer. The Octopus Moon 3DTP Black Ink, as with all our watches, can be purchased with a range of interchangeable straps of varied colours and materials. We recommend the Pitch Black natural kautschuk rubber strap.
