Paying tribute to the futuristic imagination of the 1960s, HAUTLENCE is unveiling a unique new creation: the RETROVISION ’64, inspired by the design of a famous communication device featured in a cult science-fiction series. More than just a timepiece, this model represents a bridge between two eras: one where the future was imagined in black and white, and one where contemporary Haute Horlogerie can bring those visions to life. With the RETROVISION ’64, released in a limited run of 3 pieces and unveiled at Watches & Wonders, the brand invites collectors to reconnect with the magic of their memory. With its signature cover and perforated grille, the RETROVISION ’64 instantly evokes an object that became a small screen icon – the communicator used by space explorers to open a channel across the stars. All they had to do to converse was flip up the cover. In keeping with its taste for repurposed objects, HAUTLENCE continues its exploration of everyday icons turned timekeeping machines, a journey that began with the RETROVISION ’47 and RETROVISION ’85. Following on from the radio-inspired watch and the robot watch, HAUTLENCE now turns its attention to a symbol of 1960s science fiction. The result is fun, nostalgic and unmistakably mechanical. The 1960s were an era of space conquest, the first satellites and dreams of interstellar exploration. In living rooms around the world, TVs broadcast adventures in which humans voyaged across galaxies aboard sleek spacecraft, communicating through small hand-held devices that seemed straight out of the future. These conceptual devices shaped the imagination of an entire generation. Inspiring engineers, they fuelled the collective imagination and influenced the aesthetic of the future for decades. Today, the RETROVISION ’64 is rekindling that spirit. Beneath its retro-futuristic exterior beats an in-house calibre equipped with a linear jumping hours module developed in collaboration with Agenhor. For the RETROVISION ’64, the display has been redesigned and arranged horizontally, like a transmission line ready to send a message into space. The hours jump precisely in their linear window, while the minutes are displayed on a circular dial. At the centre, a one-minute flying tourbillon with a double hairspring spring subtly elevates the model. The effect is to create a way of reading time that is as technical as it is playful, aligned with HAUTLENCE’s core mission: to turn watchmaking mechanics into a visual spectacle. With the RETROVISION ’64, HAUTLENCE celebrates an era when the future was imagined with bold excitement. A time when a few simple design strokes were enough to evoke space exploration and the technologies of the future. This creation speaks to those who grew up with these images, as well as those who continue to imagine the future with a sense of curiosity. Because sometimes, a single object is enough to make the imagination take flight. HAUTLENCE: a pioneer of modern, architectural horology and a catalyst for progressive independent watchmaking.
