Sterling Studios is a passionate authority in bespoke decorative finishes and artworks in glass, leather, paint, lacquer, resin, metal and plaster. As well as specialist artisans in hand etched glass and verre eglomisé, the beautifully romantic gilt and reverse painted glass created in eighteenth century France. Craftsmen and luxury artisans design pieces with a magical combination of art creative design and uniquely developed skills. 

Sterling Studios harnesses old-age techniques to interiors used especially for Palaces and contemporary materials creating spectacular finishes for interiors. Bespoke finishes can be used on furniture, walls, doors, or to create feature installations.  Jewel-like metals and resins, embellished glass, gesso and leather and a huge variety of painted finishes and papers can be commissioned by international designers with both contemporary and classical vision.

Sterling Studios offer a myriad of techniques combining modern paints and resins in unexpected ways, from flat or raised to hand-painted, antiqued, printed and modern styles.  Restoring antique leather rooms and creating reproduction leather paneling inspired Sterling Studios founders to create new techniques with which to raise, patinate and decorate leather and paper for ceilings, walls and furniture.  Sterling Studios skill and creativity have helped bring to life the work of industry professionals including Alidad, Joanna Wood, Todhunter Earle, Terence Disdale, Sagrada, Nicholas Haslam and Anna Owens.

Francois Lavenir and Fiona Sutcliffe combined as Founders in 2003, to build on their previous successes in antique restoration, design and painting.  Technical curiosity and familiarity and love of classical design underpins the work of Sterling Studios.  With backgrounds in antiques restoration, history and fine art, Sterling Studio’s bring new life to time-honored craftsmanship.

A strong team of 30 professionals means a limitless variety of decorative possibilities. Modern machinery, CAD facilities and a large team housed in a 10,000+ square foot premises in London offer the ability to handle large or small projects to tight deadlines. Recent commissions include a reverse painted glass jungle scenes for Selfridges International Services, eglomise glass and walllpaper for a penthouse in Baku; murals in a London penthouse; chinoiserie style glass with birds and foliage, reverse painted and hand silvered for an orangery; antiqued gilt and lacquered screens in a modernist design; abstract glass mural in silvers, bronzes and textures for a large AV cabinet. Prestigious clientele includes Graff Diamonds, 5 Hertford Street, Selfridges, Berners Tavern, The Arts Club and Sartoria.
