Sunreef is offering a first glimpse inside its latest hybrid catamaran, the mould-breaking Ultima 111 unveiled just two months ago. The luxury catamaran builder has published new images showing details of the yacht’s interior for the first time. They bring to vivid life the restrained, calming style of the huge owner’s stateroom and the main salon – both highlights of the design.
The Ultima 111 is a design collaboration between Sunreef and the sought-after Phathom Studio of the Netherlands for both the interior and the exterior. Introduced at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, the 36.25m yacht will be built at Sunreef’s state-of-the-art Ras al-Khaimah facility in the United Arab Emirates. It is destined to be the flagship of the brand’s Ultima line of sporty, hybrid catamarans - the apex of performance, style and sustainability in its size range.
Subtle automotive cues have been introduced to the sleek grey hull and black glass superstructure. But the interior is a thoughtful blend of contemporary design trends, rooted in sustainability, wellness, and biophilic principles. The concept of ‘gentle boldness’ defines the style developed for this project by Phathom - a balance of boldness and subtlety that creates a visually stimulating space.
The design carefully juxtaposes strong, dynamic elements with softer, organic features, resulting in an atmosphere that feels both energetic and serene.
Material selection emphasises durability and environmental responsibility, with a focus on products that align with a circular economy. Wherever possible, natural materials are used, ensuring that the design achieves a harmonious blend of timeless luxury and sustainable innovation.
“We know our market well, having largely created the concept of luxury, superyacht-standard catamarans ourselves,” said Sunreef founder and President, Francis Lapp. “By working with the talented, young team at Phathom, we are able to introduce fresh ideas in terms of interior design while remaining true to the DNA of the Sunreef brand. We expect the Ultima 111 to find broad appeal.”
Phathom has curated a sophisticated palette of complimentary tones and textures for the interior. It features a warm tone-on-tone trim that favours earthier colours, biophilic design and soft minimalism. Warm, tactile elements make the spaces feel cosy, while organic curves, neutral colours and careful lighting enhance the sense of wellbeing.
“We are proud that Sunreef invited us to collaborate on this exceptional project to design the interior of a flagship yacht worthy of the name ‘Ultima’,” said Jacob van de Haar, Commercial Director of Phathom. “Our multicultural approach means that we have no set house style, so our design work here has been a true reflection of Sunreef’s values. The result is an interior that is clean and modern, highly liveable but sophisticated, focusing on natural materials and a muted palette.”
Beyond the exquisite styling, all of Sunreef’s savoir-faire is evident in a line that is conceived to thrill with its blend of speed, noble interior volumes and smart technology. That means that the rhythm of life aboard is shaped by the boat’s great volumes and Sunreef’s huge experience of delivering wellbeing and comfort at sea.
Comfort has always been at the core of Sunreef’s proposition, and the Ultima 111 is on a scale which offers endless new possibilities. In a first for the line, all the guest accommodation occupies privileged raised positions above the hulls, which creates a luxurious sense of space and a stronger connection to the sea through panoramic windows. For the owner’s cabin there is even private access to a foredeck terrace suspended between the hulls.
The main saloon is another revelation, with its high deckheads and copious glass. Sliding doors flank the 10-person dining table, leading to a seductive indoor-outdoor space which is elevated to another level by fold-down balconies. Further aft, there’s a backlit marble bar and a bank of inviting sofas.
An ample upper deck lounge encased in glass blurs the lines between inside and outside, elegantly linked to the other decks by an open-concept atrium staircase, creating a sense of openness and connectivity throughout the vessel. The design prioritises privacy and efficiency, with a well-thought-out crew flow that ensures seamless service without intruding on guest areas.
Sunreef has also revealed that there will be a hybrid propulsion option for the Ultima 111 - a unique possibility in the 30-40m sector. What is more, the horizontal surfaces of the yacht’s superstructure can be studded with high-performance solar panels, capable of generating enough power during the day to keep the yacht’s systems running silently throughout the night.
Together, these technologies can transform the quality of life aboard, all but eliminating the noise and emissions associated with conventional generators.
Another stand-out feature is well-equipped beach club aft whose area more than doubles thanks to vast fold-down wings. A drive-in tender garage aft can accommodate a boat up to 5.5m, completely hidden under the main deck aft. From the outside, you would never know it was there. In addition, Phathom has engineered a sumptuous glass-walled hot tub flanked by sun pads into the aft edge of the upper deck. It will allow guests to enjoy the anchorage in unrivalled style.
Sunreef takes its responsibilities to safeguard the environment for this and future generations very seriously. Besides the hyper-efficient hybrid solar set-up, there are eco-conscious options throughout the yacht. Recycled PET foam is used to add strength to the composite structure of the hull, as well as reducing the weight of furniture elements. Renewable flax fibre can be used in other composite structures, like Jacuzzis, navigation stations and biminis. And the interior itself can feature recyclable, recycled and reclaimed materials, from wood to glass and carpets.
“Elevated by its interior styling, the Ultima 111 still includes all those elements for which Sunreef yachts are prized. It can be equipped as an efficient solar hybrid yacht, and operate in full air conditioned comfort with minimal energy use. There is the same luxurious sense of space and headroom – a unique feature of our catamarans – alongside the facilities of a much larger yacht,” added Lapp.
