Tarquin’s Yuzu and Lime Gin, the latest creation from self-taught master distiller Tarquin Leadbetter, is an experimental gin pushing the boundaries of zesty refreshment while retaining a balance that is typical of his creations.
Tarquin distils this beautiful limited-edition gin with Yuzu zest and fresh lime for a vibrant spirit that ignites the senses. On the nose there are tasting notes of wild pomelo, cherry blossom and candied lime, flavours of zesty yuzu, orange blossom and soft juniper with a finish of lime sorbet, eastern spice and fresh tangerine. Made in small batches in one of Tarquin’s flame-fired copper pot stills, this limited-edition release launches on 12th August and will only be available for summer 2021.
Yuzu, traditionally used in Japanese cooking first came to Tarquin’s attention when training as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu, long before learning to distill gin. The exotic citrus fruit adds a beautiful and exotic edge to his gin and when balanced with whole limes, creates something truly spectacular.
A zesty hybrid citrus fruit of lime, lemon and grapefruit, the exotic ingredient Yuzu, which grows abundantly in Japan brings more than just a refreshing flavour. Several studies note that its aroma has soothing effects, potentially reducing tension and anxiety [Healthline].
“I really enjoy trying new things and pushing the boundaries of taste and flavour, it’s one of the reasons I fell in love with making gin in the first place, anything is possible!” Tarquin said, “Yuzu is such a remarkable fruit, this very special gin makes an outstanding gin and tonic or yuzu spritz garnished with fresh mint and cucumber!” - Tarquin Leadbetter, founder and Master Distiller at Southwestern Distillery.
