Vineyard {511} is releasing its 2011 Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon on March15, at the Family Winemakers of California Tasting, held at Fairplex, in Pomona, CA.
Producing a great Napa Cabernet from the 2011 harvest was indeed challenging! Here's what Antonio Galloni, writing in Vinous, had to say: "The 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons have turned out better than I expected. It was a challenging vintage, but the best wines will surprise readers for their aromatic intensity, finesse, balance and sense of place. Most importantly, 2011 is a beautiful vintage through which to discover what makes Napa Valley's best terroirs so compelling."
Vineyard {511} truly benefited from its Diamond Mountain District terroir in 2011. Although the growing season started late due to winter conditions lasting into spring, warm weather followed. With Vineyard {511}'s western-facing hillside and rocky white-ash soil, the vines were able to ripen, even with their slow start. The grapes were picked on October 26, 2011, as compared to earlier harvests for previous vintages, and ahead of the late October rains that ruined many harvests. While the growing season started late, it also finished late, so that the grapes not only had time to reach the desired sugar level, but also ripeness.
We have tasted the 2011 VIneyard {511} Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon a number of times and it is fast becoming our favorite.
