Viral artist Kim Rose is forging the path for a new era of luxury fine art and showing her followers exclusive peeks of her unique, self-created techniques and exquisite materials along the way. As the fine art world’s hottest up-and-coming artist, Kim Rose, aka the queen of resin art, has mastered the complications and intricacies of resin art on a large scale, and her work is eagerly anticipated by collectors and followers alike.

Kim specializes in painting with real 24 karat gold, in a nod to fine art techniques used for centuries that she’s fused with techniques she’s developed herself. As a master of large-scale resin, Kim must create her work in a perfectly clean and calculated manner.

“I only have 40min or so to complete a coat before it starts to harden, and I have as many as 3 assistants helping me at a time when working on a top coat to achieve the most flawless look I can,” Kim shared on her process. “We all wear gloves and respirators. It is a very intense process, but the rush and look of the final product makes it all worth it. There is nothing quite like it. The layers and fluidity play together beautifully.”

Kim likes to highlight the importance of materials and how they help tell a story. “My form of abstract art is so freeing to me. It allows me to show intricate stories and feelings in ways I could never put into words”. She then goes on to say, “because of this, materials and technique are monumental aspects in my storytelling”.

She is one of the few artists in the world who has mastered the use of alcohol ink in large-scale work. Combining her mastery of these methods with new techniques known only to herself, such as her sand/stone texture technique, creates the incredible and luxurious results Kim is known for globally.

“Painting with real gold gives the paintings a certain life that nothing else can—the paintings glow in the sunrise and sunset and emanate a royal and heavenly presence. I love gold because it is a glimpse into heaven,” she said. Combining real gold, alcohol ink and resin in her intense and perfected process, each of Kim’s pieces is totally unique. “Even with years and years of perfecting technique and skill, there is still an element of controlled chaos involved in the work. This is why I will never be able to

create two pieces that are exactly alike, even if I wanted to. The final piece is right on the edge of order and chaos, which is one of the reasons I think it is so beautiful.”

Highly sought after by collectors across the world, Kim’s work is completely sold out and on a long waitlist—about 1 year to receive a painting. But the art is always worth the wait, with Kim Rose paintings owned by luxury collectors in Beverly Hills, New York, Qatar, England, Italy, Brazil, Taiwan, Portugal, Ireland and Germany.

For those wanting a piece by Kim Rose, they have the chance to snag a coveted “mini.” Twice a year, Kim creates a series of 30 minis—work on a smaller scale, about 16 inches by 8 inches—and interacts with her large social media following to gauge colors and textures before she creates the series. The only way to secure a mini is to call dibs on the day Kim drops the series, and every series sells out within seconds of release. Kim’s latest mini series, inspired by the natural beauty and architecture in Tulum, incorporated sand from Tulum’s beaches and Kim’s signature 24k gold accents. Each mini included a link to a playlist Kim listened to while creating the series and copal, a natural incense made from tree resin in Mexico used to purify spaces. “Before seeing your mini, I want you to play the playlist and light the copal stick so all your senses take you to Tulum,” Kim said at the drop.

Kim’s story and work showcases a new path to the luxury fine art world. “I was told by professors that nobody would take me seriously as a fine artist if I posted on social media,” she shared. “I knew that was false, and that I could utilize social media as a free marketing tool. I have used it to reach collectors around the world and am still very respected as a fine artist.” As the child of an engineer father and a creative artist mother, this dichotomy in personalities informs Kim’s work to this day. She began her artistic career while majoring in business and minoring in the arts, experimenting with different types of art until she landed on her signature medium of resin and gold fine art, taking a gamble on herself.

“I spent all of my money on a studio in downtown Los Angeles, and I said ‘If I sell a painting, then I can stay. And if not, I guess that’s it.’ The first big sale I made was within a couple of weeks of moving in, and it covered the next two months’ rent,” shared Kim. “That was the moment I knew I had to keep going in this direction. Since then, I have dedicated my life and my purpose to my art. Things have grown astronomically in the past few years, and for me this is still only the beginning.”

After the passing of her mom, Marisol, Kim realized “how precious life is, and how important it is to use our talents to help those we care most about”. In 2018, she had her first charity art auction, Mission Marisol, to honor her mother, uniting artists from around the world to fundraise for kids in Tijuana, Mexico. Kim continues to use her art to bring awareness and funds to charities focused on bringing arts to kids. She also uses her platform to share the work of her fellow artists and connect her social media followers to the world of luxury art.

Separately from the fine resin art she creates, Kim releases minimal line drawings that have gone viral on social media as well. She shares, “people love to collect these, as well as tattoo them. So many people across the globe have tattooed my designs and sent me photos, which is very special to me”. Kim also shares that some of her favorite line art collaborations have been with celebs such as Noah Centineo and Mathilde Tantot. Her work in this space further proves her versatility and creative vision.

In all forms of her art, Kim says that, “art has not only served as a way to story tell, but also a way to bring people together, both nearby and from around the world”. She then goes on to say that her art “is the interface between life and imagination. This to me is very beautiful”.
