In partnership with Watch Angels, Alpina is proud to unveil a world first devoted to one of the most critical flight phases and produced at only 300 pieces. For decades, pilots’ watches have paid tribute to the world of aviation without really providing any support for pilots’ operational decisions – but now the Startimer Pilot Chronograph Automatic IFR changes all that. The timepiece introduces a new, fully mechanical horological function designed with and for professional pilots, allowing them to instantly view headings to enter a holding pattern – a key phase in any (Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) approach in which accuracy, professionalism and discipline are all vital.

A COMPLETE 3-IN-1

PILOT'S WATCH

The Startimer Pilot Chronograph Automatic IFR brings together 3 pillars of mechanical flight instruments: IFR (Instrument Flight Rule) function to determine the heading to join a hold. A chronograph with a 12-hour counter, crucial to monitor longer phases of flight. An UTC hand, indispensable for any cross-border flight path.

NSTANTLY READABLE

AND USER-FRIENDLY

The timepiece’s bidirectional bezel allows the pilot to enter two pieces of data: their current heading and the heading for entering the hold. The watch instantly provides the type of entry (direct, parallel or teardrop), the required headings and the left-hand or right-hand entry direction. An intuitive colour code ensures information can be read off instantly and unambiguously.

UNPRECEDENTED

DEVELOPMENT

The particularity of this system is that it is fully mechanical – and completely separate from the movement, which boasts a 62-hour power reserve. The entire calculation and display system is housed in the watch externals – for the most part in the 44.5-millimetre diameter ceramic bezel and in the flange. Just 300 of this limited edition will be produced.
