Paddleboarding is a water-sport that is seriously underrated – and which is rightfully enjoying a resurgence in popularity. With more people planning domestic holidays this summer, there is a perfect excuse to make your summer holiday a paddleboarding excursion to coastal Britain. But where is best to go?

How to Make a Coastal Trip

Before we look at some of the best paddleboarding spots in the UK, it is necessary to touch upon the logistics of organising a fun, safe and accessible paddleboarding trip. Depending on where in the UK you and your paddle-buddies live, travel to one of these destinations could be a serious undertaking.

While just getting out there might be tempting, it is key that you think carefully about your trip. If a bunch of you are going, you need to ensure you have enough room in your transport for safety equipment as well as paddleboards and beverages. Spare towels, first aid kits, additional wetsuits, spare batteries and torches are all vital things to keep packed.

This means you’ll need a big enough car, or convoy of cars, to carry everything – which brings us to driving. Long distance road trips to the beach are events in their own right, and pose their own risks to life. Driving duties should be shared in order to reduce risk, making short term car insurance a key consideration in advance; sort this at the same time you book your camping spot or accommodation, and you’ll be good to go! But good to go where?

Burgh Island

The English Channel is a beautiful sight to behold, and all the more beautiful when viewed from an island nestled within it. Burgh Island, off the Devonshire coast, is a miniscule slice of paradise; it is a tidal island, just about big enough for a single hotel and a handful of private homes. It is prime paddleboarding territory on account of the thrilling waters that swirl about its shores.

Penzance

Cornwall is a stunning county altogether, but made all the more so by the magical places its shores contain. The South-West Peninsula is a mecca for water-sports, too, with the ‘Cornish Riviera’ being a particularly popular destination. To the west of the ‘riviera’ is Penzance, which boasts a secluded bay with calm waters perfect for light paddleboarding.

Porthcurno

Mere miles from Penzance, yet further to the west, is Porthcuno. Porthcuno boasts one of the UK’s best beaches, with sand and sea that would not look amiss in a photo album of the Mediterranean coast. This is the most beautiful place for paddleboarding, being a summer idyll.

Brighton Beach

Finally, we come to Brighton Beach, one of the most popular beach resort destinations in the UK. This is worth a visit for the arcades alone, but is an incredible paddleboarding spot besides. This is particularly true if you’re looking for a more social paddleboarding holiday!
