Maserati took China by storm with the launch of its most exclusive, high-performance SUV, the Levante Trofeo, at the 2018 Chengdu Motor Show. Built around a V8 engine, this model is capable of sprinting in style from 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds while reaching a top speed of 304 km/h. Only 88 units of the launch edition are available for China, making the Trofeo the top choice for luxury performance connoisseurs with the desire to travel fast and in style.
The Trofeo's power unit, co-designed with and hand-built by Ferrari, is one of the most powerful engines fitted in a Maserati in its 104-year history. Delivering an astonishing 590 hp at 6,250 rpm and 734 Nm peak torque at 2,500 – 5,000 rpm, the power output is second only to its race-bred sibling, the legendary MC12 champion GT racer featuring an aspirated 630hp V12. The MC12 sits alongside the Trofeo on stage at the Chengdu Motor Show as a symbol of inspiration and a reminder of the power and performance that's available in the Levante Trofeo.
Like every Maserati, the Trofeo invokes the marque's GranTurismo philosophy – the ability to travel great distances fast and in style. The chassis of the fastest Levante ever is meticulously tuned to handle the higher power output, providing an exhilarating driving experience with no compromise to long distance comfort and active safety. Fittingly translating to 'Champion Cup' in Italian, the Trofeo expertly blends supercar performance with fine Italian luxuries.
"When you awaken the spirit of the elements, it's inevitable that you end up in a storm," said Alberto Cavaggioni, Managing Director of Maserati China. "With the Trofeo, we summoned one of the finest engines on Earth and paired it with the sophisticated style and boundless luxury that underlie the Maserati mark. The result is one of the most powerfully dynamic vehicles for adventurers who demand the most exclusive experiences life has to offer."
Timeless Design with Exceptional Luxury
The Trofeo is an exemplar of Maserati's unmistakable design, eye-catching from the first glimpse with a new level of sportiness. The Full Matrix LED headlights, a standard on the new SUV, flank a front grille with double vertical bars in black piano finish. The lower honeycomb mesh fascia paired with carbon fibre elements such as the side bezel blades and splitter help improve airflow distribution and add functionality to the astonishingly modern exterior.
The side air intakes in the lower fascia feature a new, more aggressive design defined by two aerodynamic wings that give a sense of stability, visually "pushing" the weight of the car's nose towards the 22-inch forged aluminum "Orione" wheels – the largest ever fitted on a Maserati. Performance painted brake calipers provide powerful accents to boost the vehicle's already commanding presence.
The wider, muscular rear end also provides a more imposing look with a sharper carbon fibre horizontal element and body-color lower extractor that embrace the dark-finished, oval quad exhaust tips. A dedicated "Saetta" Trofeo logo adorns the iconic C-pillar of the GT-style SUV to cap off a fully reimagined exterior design.
The powerful stance from the outside of the Trofeo is equally matched by the luxurious, congenial, and expertly crafted atmosphere of its interior. Maserati applies the most stringent standards in selecting the material used in the interior. The goal is to create the comfortable driving environment, rendering long-distance journey passionate, comfortable, joyous, and peace-of-mind.
The sculpted sport seats, available in black, red and tan, with contrast stitching and "Trofeo" logo stitched on the headrests, feature a premium full-grain "Pieno Fiore" leather. The soft feel and natural tanning treatment ensure the premium leather develops its own characteristics over time. The finest hand-made details add additional luster to the spacious cabin, including a new matte carbon fibre wave trim, paddle shifters, specific instrument cluster graphics and a Maserati clock with a unique dial elegantly underline the exclusive sporty character of this extraordinary Maserati.
The surround sound audio system in Trofeo is specially designed at Bowers & Wilkins for a pure, enjoyable listening experience. A standard 17-speaker premium surround sound system makes the driver and passengers feel like they are in a mobile concert hall.
Race-bred Performance for an Enhanced Driving Experience
Four specialized driving modes and a series of driving assistance features complement the Trofeo's outstanding power, and the car blends with the driver in perfect harmony. The new "Corsa" mode with Launch Control functionality joins existing driving modes and is designed to enhance the vehicle's sporty character. Simply press the "Sports/Corsa" button on the center console twice to start this new mode and the slightest accelerator pedal operation excites unprecedented dynamic functionality with optimal adjustment of engine, gearbox, suspension and ESP for extreme performance.
In addition to the new driving modes, Maserati's powerful controlling is also a result of masterful engineering. An ideal weight balance and the low center of gravity in combination with a finely tuned suspension and larger tires endow the new Trofeo with remarkably balanced handling and lateral stability. The Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system matched with the Twin Turbo V8 engine also delivers more power to the rear axle to maximize driving performance and pleasure.
The Maserati Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system adds on the Trofeo's impressive driving dynamics and results in a more natural and predictable driving feeling for improved satisfaction behind the wheel.
Exclusivity and a One-of-a-Kind Experience
For the discerning Maserati customer who pursues a personal touch of the limited-series model, the Trofeo offers eight exclusive exterior colors with dedicated finishes, including Blu Emozione, Rosso Magma and Giallo Modenese.
A customizable name badge integrated on the center console has also been added to underline the unique character of the Trofeo.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the Trofeo starts at RMB1,958,000.
A Sportier Expression with Nerissimo
In addition to the MC12 supercar and its SUV protégé – the Trofeo, the Trident's other models were also present in Chengdu. The Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli all feature the Nerissimo package, which offers an exclusive black that envelops the wheels and the front grille, giving the car an aggressive and modern stance. The package on the window frames, door handles, exhaust tips, and side breather provides a provocative touch to the sport package. A smoked Trident on the grille and the rear Maserati logo cap off this sportier expression to an already sleek lineup of race-inspired vehicles from Maserati.
