How to Design a Guest Bedroom That’ll Make Hotels Jealous

Just go ahead and picture this for a moment; your guests show up, fully prepared to settle into the usual spare room situation, there’s the idea of an old mattress, the forgotten blanket from the back of the airing cupboard, and towels that have seen better days. Maybe they don’t even expect to be in the spare bedroom, but even just in a nice living room with a sleeper soda. But then, surprise. They walk into a space so cosy, so stylish, they’re wondering if they’ve accidentally wandered into a boutique hotel.

The idea sounds pretty great, right? Well, creating a guest room that feels this special isn’t about blowing the budget or pulling off a full renovation. Actually, it’s about clever tweaks, thoughtful touches, and making the space feel like it’s had a bit of love, not like it’s the land of retired furniture (which it shouldn’t be in the first place).

Make it a Cloud, Not a Camp Bed

Alright, so for starters, people talk about the bed first. No one ever says, “Oh, the skirting boards were stunning.” A bed that’s soft, inviting, and practically begging people to dive in will always steal the show. Time to step it up. So, just go ahead and think about brands like The White Company for bedding, they have that hotel-level luxury quality, but of course, this is in your own home. But to top it all off with a mix of pillows(there’s always that one person who likes a firm one), a soft throw at the end, so, that’s easy enough, right?

Well, there’s just one more thing, the glow matters too. Overhead lights? Well, these can feel cold and clinical. But instead, give them warm bedside lamps (which is what hotels do anyway).

Just Give the Room Some Character

Hotels can be lovely but, let’s be honest, sometimes they’re a bit... bland. Okay, almost always they’re known for that (sometimes even the luxury hotels can look bland too in the rooms). So, if you think about it; a home has the upper hand when it comes to personality. So give it some love.

For example, maybe looking into getting a framed print from a local artist or a few travel photos on the wall can make it feel like the room has a story to tell. A little plant or two, a nice scented candle, and maybe even a stack of books guests can flip through before bed, help the space feel lived-in but still tidy.

As you can see, something like this is super easy to do, right?

Show those Windows Some Love

Now sire, it’s easy to forget the windows, but they can make or break the vibe. No, really, they actually can have a pretty big impact, so you don’t want to pick just anything (and don’t go for ugly plastic blinds please). You want this to look luxurious, so maybe looking into high-quality manufactured Roman blinds can be a pretty good idea since they bring in that luxe, tailored feel.

It’s the Little Extras that Go a Long Way

Honestly, it’s the small things that turn “that room upstairs” into a proper guest retreat. It’s really about those little things like a robe, fluffy pillows, a carafe of water and a glass, chargers, just those tiny and convenient things.
