Thailand is one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations, with over 15 million tourists every year. There are many reasons for this. Its islands have stunning beaches, incredible nightlife, and delicious food. Add in the fact that it is cheap to get there and to find accommodation, and you have the perfect recipe for a tourist haven.
That’s all well and good if you’re looking for a cheap vacation, but what if you want to travel in luxury? Thailand can be overwhelming, and its hotels may not live up to the standard you’re used to, Furthermore, the crowds may eventually get to you, and there is always the risk of food poisoning.
The good news is that having a luxury vacation in Thailand is actually very easy. Choose your island paradise and book ground and sea transportation tickets online. Then follow these guidelines.
Stay on a secluded island
If you want to experience the wild nightlife, you’re going to have to get down and dirty on Phuket’s (in)famous Bangla Road. But if you want a luxury trip with your partner or even on your own, Thailand’s secluded islands are truly utopian. Islands like Koh Kradan, Koh Yao Noi, and Koh Lanta have everything you need to enjoy your trip in peace and luxury.
The downside is that you will have to travel a bit further (and in a little less comfort) than if you stick with Phuket or its closest neighbors. The trip is worth it, however, to get away from the crowds to a paradise that feels like it is your own.
Choose resorts, not villas
Villas in Thailand are very popular. They are affordable and comfortable, with big open plan spaces and well-furnished rooms. You can get some really great villas with air-conditioning, comfy beds, and fast WiFi.
However, when it comes to luxury, resorts are always going to be on a different level to villas. For one thing, resort units are built in a more standardized way, allowing for better climate control. You’re less likely to get a sore throat every morning from the AC. Your beds will also be even more comfortable.
But there’s also the fact that everything is available to you at a resort with no work at all. You don’t have to worry about organizing your own dinner or stocking up on bottled water. You don’t have to worry about any responsibilities at all. Resorts are much better suited to luxury trips, even if a nice big villa seems really appealing.
Avoid street food and buffets
In an ideal world, we would only eat street food on Thailand vacations. Getting so closely acquainted with Thai culture is exactly why you’re choosing a destination on the other side of the world.
However, the unfortunate truth is that eating street food increases your likelihood of food poisoning exponentially. You won’t definitely get food poisoning, but there is a good chance you will. Thai people (and those who have lived there for a while) are well-adapted to the food and its context, but you won’t be in such a short time.
The same is true for hot buffet meals which have stood out for a while. They are often the culprit when it comes to food poisoning, and you should be careful if not outright avoiding them.
