Last night at the prestigious News UK Motor Awards 2023, the Maserati MC20 Cielo was named as the ‘Best Designed Car of the Year’.
This accolade bestowed on the MC20 Cielo was chosen by the News UK’s experienced group of motoring journalists and experts who sit across publications including Driving.co.uk, The Sunday Times and The Times Luxx.
The annual News UK Motor Awards aim to celebrate the best in class across all categories within the automotive sector, looking at all models and segments.
Will Dron, editor of Driving.co.uk, said: "Maserati seems to have a lot of confidence once more, and its revitalisation started with the beautiful MC20. In creating the Cielo version, all the things we loved about the coupé have been retained while adding fine details that are both functional and elegant, and allowing drivers to be even more exposed to the car's V6 soundtrack. The folding glass roof itself is neat and high tech, with the PDLC feature underscoring how Maserati is now very much on the front foot technically. Most importantly for our judges, the MC20 Cielo is quite simply a stunning thing to behold."
Commenting on the exciting win, General Manager, Maserati North Europe, Peter Charters said, “Our flagship model, the MC20 Cielo, is uniquely Italian and exotically Maserati, and we are honoured that it has won such a prestigious accolade. It is testament to the Maserati design team who have created such a beautiful and captivating design with the soul and performance of such a super sports car.”
At the heart of the MC20 Cielo is the revolutionary new ‘Nettuno’ engine, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that delivers 630 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and powers it to just shy of 200 mph. Maserati’s latest engine is the first intended for a road car to use an innovative pre-chamber combustion system with twin spark plugs, a technology derived from Formula 1.
The MC20 Cielo also features an innovative hard top roof which can still give the impression of an open top and the endless sky above, even when closed. It does so through its innovative glass panel which can also be seamlessly switched between opaque and transparent at the touch of a button. The roof can also fold away or close at speeds of up to 31 mph.
