Successful chefs continually aim to adapt to clients’ demands but these days, this involves doing much more than adding fusion flavors to a menu or investing in beautiful design. We are living in a unique time; one in which artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality are taking over everything from how we entertain ourselves to how we shop. Who needs to enter a physical store, for instance, when we can check out how an outfit suits us by trying out virtual shopping? The dining industry is no less savvy. Read on to discover how visionary chefs and restaurateurs are taking dining to the next level by adding an interactive flavor!

Stepping into the Surreal
The ultimate exponent of next-frontier dining is encapsulated by Sublimotion, a restaurant on the uber trendy island of Ibiza, Spain. It is the dream child of two-Michelin-starred chef Paco Roncero, and it combines food, art, illusionism, and tech in an experience that is so magical it is said to be worth every cent of the €1,650 it costs per person for one meal. Of course, this isn’t any old haute cuisine meal. It combines exquisite dishes with a voyage into the metaverse, thanks to the use of 3D headsets, music, lighting, and futuristic design. Just 12 diners per evening are taken on a journey that has been prepared by the chef alongside illusionists, audiovisual specialists, architects, screenwriters, and engineers. Diners are virtually and sensorially taken to different places and times. They plunge to the depths of the ocean, catch the rays on a Copacabana beach, and attend a futuristic dinner with friends in 2050, all while tucking into a 20-course menu.

Survival of the Fittest

Prepping is another big trend in the world of books and weekend activities and today, there are an estimated 10 million American preppers, with at least 7 million households preparing for emergencies. This trend is closely tied to the penchant for nature-based experiences. More and more families are keen to learn how to survive in the wild, and they are opting for road trips and camping experiences that enable them to sleep under the stars. Prepping and camping experiences are definitely a lot more glam than they used to be, however. Campers are taking it to the next level with gourmet food kits for camping that are much tastier than traditional camping fare like sausages and s’mores. These ready-made meals entice food buffs with dishes like wild rice risotto, vegan freeze-dried strawberries and bananas, and dairy-free survival foods. The interactive element comes to the fore when campers build a fire or use an outdoor gas stove to whip up a fine and varied feast!

Dining With Giraffes
For those who love animals, few interactive experiences are quite as unique as dining with them – a fact that the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi has leveraged with great success. As you enjoy a breakfast that will fuel you up for your days visiting wild animals outdoors, gentle giraffes peer in through the windows and you can pet them and join staff in feeding them nutritious grass pellets. Don’t worry, they won’t take your pancakes, but they will steal your heart as they cozy up to you and display their characteristic curiosity!

Luxury means different things to different people. For some, it’s all about experiencing technology at the next level. For others, it’s more about feeling the grounding experience of nature while trying out foods specifically made for the outdoors. Finally, for animal lovers, few things are as satisfying as enjoying a meal alongside beautiful animals whose gentleness and majesty send one into an immediate Zen zone.
