The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts Shows Pioneering Spirit with Launch of Unique Pop-Up Adventure Camp

The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts is demonstrating its commitment to rare and original travel experiences with the launch of the brand’s first ever luxury pop-up tented camp, located in the wild and beautiful grasslands of Mongolia.

Opening in June 2018 and running throughout the summer season, The Pavilions Mongolia features just 20 luxurious gers (circular Mongolian tents) all adorned with authentic, cosy and colourful interiors. Adventurous international guests will be able to enjoy an array of local pursuits such as horse riding, archery and fishing, along with more modern activities including photography, mountain biking and kayaking.

“Mongolia is an inspirational destination where guests can experience genuine adventures, off the beaten track,” said Gordon Oldham, Founder and CEO of The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts.

“With its collection of traditional Mongolian gers this unique camp offers complete cultural immersion with a wide range of outdoor activities, including many traditional Mongolian pastimes, in a truly spectacular setting,” he added.

Travellers interested in learning more about the traditional nomadic lifestyle in this remote part of the world can take part in workshops on carpet making and cashmere production, or attend Mongolian horse races, polo matches and traditional archery competitions. Those interested in learning how to play polo can join daily training sessions and “chukkas” with trained instructors.

In addition to the wealth of outdoor activities on offer, guests will be offered day trips to historical sites such as Karakorum, the first capital of the Mongol Empire; Khar Balgas, the ancient capital of the Uighur Empire; and Tovkhon Monastery, either by 4x4 vehicle or on horseback.

In line with the luxury hotel group’s brand pillars of adventure, romance and authentic culture, The Pavilions has joined forces with The Genghis Khan Riding & Adventure Camp, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation of Mongolian culture and providing education and support for local children.

The majority of the proceeds from The Pavilions Mongolia goes to The Genghis Khan Riding & Adventure Camp, which hosts summer camps to teach local children horse riding and other skills, including art, music and sports. English language classes are also provided. “The Genghis Khan Riding & Adventure Camp is all about sustainable travel, benefiting the children in the local communities. I know that our guests will be delighted to know that they are contributing to such a worthwhile cause, while also enjoying their own once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Mr Oldham said.

The Pavilions Mongolia is the perfect base from which to explore Orkhon Valley National Park, which is home to some of Mongolia’s most incredible natural wonders. On a daily basis, guests can head out on foot or on horseback to discover the rolling green hills, lush valleys, dense forests and swirling rivers that surround the camp.

The essence of The Pavilions Mongolia is that all activities are genuine parts of daily life, and nothing is ever staged. Guests will experience life on the Mongolian grasslands as it has existed for centuries, and every day is flexible with no pre-set agendas or itineraries.

The 360km journey from the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, to The Pavilions camp takes guests on a six-hour drive through breath-taking landscapes. Perched atop Mongke Tengri Hill in the scenic Orkhon Valley National Park, this luxurious retreat is a sanctuary for guests seeking inspiring adventure and a renewed connection to nature.
