Established in 2004, Windrush operates two storage centres: an expansive, secretive facility situated beneath the streets of central London and a sprawling Cotswolds headquarters hidden from view within beautiful countryside. Both are renowned for offering unrivalled care and exemplary attention to detail to fastidious vehicle owners around the world.
Windrush London has recently moved to a new larger, central London space, presenting an in-house Preparation Zone, customer lounge and a large Drop Zone - a beautifully presented, extremely secure area where clients can collect and return vehicles at any time of day or night in safety and comfort. Expansion of the London site has created the largest central London vehicle storage facility, with 24/7 access, state of the art security and a permanent team of staff on site.
Their Cotswolds facility has also seen investment with an environmentally sensitive extension to cater for increased client demand in the area, along with a spacious detailing and preparation area and client spaces, all hidden from view in a very rural location. As with Windrush London, the Cotswolds site presents the largest, purpose-built storage facility in the county.
Both facilities are temperature and humidity controlled at the optimum levels to retain just enough moisture in rubber and plastic components, whilst also being dry enough to protect metal areas. Cars are parked with unhindered access and a measured distance between each to ensure easy access without risk of damage. Every vehicle is connected to a high-quality battery conditioner to maintain battery health, and daily checks are undertaken to ensure every car is always in a ready to go condition. In addition to the finest levels of car storage, Windrush also offer a full concierge service. On request, the team can manage maintenance, restorations, national and international vehicle logistics, import and export, PPF and detailing as well as arranging driving tours and track days. The team are also well versed in car-related crisis management and are on hand 24/7 to act as the client requires, whatever their wish may be.
Alongside their long standing, internationally recognised ISO9001 quality management standard, Windrush also operates as a customs bonded warehouse, a highly sought-after status which offers the opportunity to delay payable duty and VAT on vehicle imports indefinitely. As long as the vehicle remains in the care of Windrush, it will be exempt from duty usually demanded when bringing a vehicle into the UK. Duty and VAT will be waived entirely if a vehicle is subsequently re-exported. More information on this service can be found here.
For almost 20 years the Windrush name has become renowned as the best in the car storage industry, but it is also their discrete and deliberately secretive approach that sees them held in such high regard. Locations are a well-kept secret; social media is kept to a bare minimum and an open day will never be on the agenda. When you care for loved possessions, security is paramount and even external contractors are sourced from a carefully vetted, trusted supplier list.
A recent FT feature on London’s supercar spotters independently confirmed their discrete approach when they stated “Cars are kept in a handful of private garages scattered across the city, most famously Windrush’s secret ‘Bat Cave’ in West London. And good luck getting any intel on that.”
Tim Earnshaw, Founder and Managing Director of Windrush, said “Our clients use us for many reasons, some seek long-term care of a cherished vehicle, others may want to use their cars very regularly, and the needs of each individual can be very different. A vintage car may require mechanical inspection and attention to stay in good health, and the latest EV supercars tend to have very specific charging requirement when being left unused for longer periods. It is our job to give each and every car the level of care it demands, week in, week out to ensure each and every one is ready to go as soon as the client demands it.”
And it’s not just routine storage that’s on offer, as Tim continued, “We offer a full concierge service too. This can range from taking a car for routine manufacturer servicing to transporting a car to a European holiday home and covers everything in between. If a client wants to take a driving tour, we will look at route and accommodation options for them, and if they want to import/ export a vehicle we can manage the process, we can even prepare and deliver a car for a trackday or manage the logistical issues encountered when selling or acquiring a vehicle.”
After almost 20-years in business, Windrush remains at the top of the car storage business and has become the default option for a number of automotive brands, dealers, and auction houses, and also partners with a number of relevant, selected business around the world.
Tim concluded “whatever we are asked to do, the answer is always yes. To deliver on that promise we have an extensive, full-time team of experts in both locations, on hand to provide the highest levels of service. That doesn’t mean we ever rest on our laurels, and continually enhance and improve our offering to please our clients and stay ahead of the rest. Car storage is so much more than simply storing a car, we take away the mundane tasks of vehicle ownership allowing the owner to simply enjoy the car, when needed, with no additional matters to cloud the ownership experience.”
