Winter Breaks: How To Pack For Your Short and Chilly Getaway

One of the big developments in travel over the past few years has been the emergence of the city break. In winter this is something that is even more common; unless you travel across the world the beach is out of the question, so the next best thing for many is a city getaway.

However, particularly with airline baggage restrictions stricter than ever before, it can be really difficult to pack ahead for one of these holidays. This is what today's blog post will look into, as we guide you through some key factors to keep in mind as you pack for your short and chilly break.

Wear as much as possible on the flight

As we’ve already said, airlines are becoming a bit too restrictive when it comes to their baggage requirements. It feels as though there was once a time where we could take as much as we wanted on these flights, but now the tables have turned. Unless you pay the hefty charges, it has become really difficult to cram in enough for a weekend in the allocated limit.

This is where you need to think shrewdly and, as much as it might sound ridiculous, consider wearing as many of these clothes on your flight. If you were to place a big coat in a small bag you wouldn’t fit anything else in there, so it stands to reason that this should be the first thing you wear. It doesn’t stop there though, and any larger boots also need to be worn while if you can handle it, try and fill your outfit with as many layers as possible.

Take advantage of layering

We have just spoken about layering, but the point of this next consideration is to take advantage of the L-word as you take to the streets in your city of choice. There are a whole host of guides on layering, so we won’t delve into the topic in too much detail. However, the main principle is that you can gradually adjust your temperature. If things are getting a little too hot to handle, peel back a layer and go from there. Or, if the temperature has dropped even more, pull out another thin layer to help you along.

Of course, not all garments are suitable for layering and in the interests of this, you should be filling your suitcase with as many thin ones as possible.

Be smart with your footwear choices

Quite often, footwear choices refer to whether or not a particular brand of shoes is stylish or not. For today, we’re not going down this path. After all, today is all about equipping your body to handle the cold weather, and to do this you need adequate footwear.

What tends to satisfy this? These men's Chelsea boots will make all the difference; not only will they keep you warm but it will also help to guard against any nasty slips – which are far too common in winter. When you’re choosing your footwear, make sure you keep both of these things in mind, whilst also realizing that city breaks tend to involve a lot of walking so you’ll need something really comfortable.
