Every year, more than 2 million people get married in America. Choosing to commit to someone for the rest of your life is a big step to take, and this normally starts with one very important event — that all-important proposal. The most preferred way of asking someone to marry you is with a beautiful ring in your hand, as it shows that you are serious about making that commitment. If you are shopping for the perfect engagement ring that your loved one is going to wear for the rest of their lives, diamonds are always classic. It doesn’t have to be a plain solitaire though — there are some hot new trends in diamonds that are both modern and sophisticated.

Multiple stones

Engagement rings with several stones are on trend this year, particularly with three or five spread across the band. This rise in popularity is partially due to Meghan Markle. Her beautiful ring features two stones that came from Harry’s mother — the style icon Princess Diana. Markle’s diamonds were originally set on a classic gold band, however in 2019 Markle had her engagement ring redesigned. The trio of diamonds now sits on a thinner gold band that is delicately adorned all the way around with tiny diamonds. Emerald cut diamonds are particularly good if you want an engagement ring with multiple stones, as they are striking and stylish.

Unusual Pairings

On trend this season is pairing a new diamond with an heirloom stone that is non-traditional in shape. It means that you can design your own ring and still incorporate gemstones with a personal meaning. Finding a diamond that you like online has never been easier — you can select the type that you want and then search for cut, shape and clarity. When you are happy with your selection, the diamond will be delivered to your home or straight to your jeweler. Setting your diamond side by side on an asymmetrical band with more unusual solitaire stones like blue topaz or garnet is popular. The stones don’t have to be the same size either — a mismatch in proportions will give your engagement ring a modern and fresh aesthetic.

Asscher Cut Diamonds

Asscher Cut diamonds are all about the sophistication of the Art Deco period. The shape was originally designed and made by a Dutch jeweler, Joseph Asscher in the early 20th Century. The diamonds are cut with 72 facets, giving them a brilliant sparkle and shine. One of the most famous Asscher Cut diamonds, named the Krupp Diamond, was worn by the Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor. It is an incredible 33.19 carats — definitely a statement piece! The Asscher Cut is an excellent choice if you want to have a colored or tinted diamond on your engagement ring. The open facets will enhance the color even more, giving your ring a vibrant beauty.

An engagement ring is incredibly personal and has great meaning. The diamond that you choose will last forever — a future heirloom that you can treasure for your whole life.
